On the Corner of Heartache and Hopeful-Grace

Revenge is a dish best served cold—and according to Grace Harrington, while wearing three inch stilettos and wielding a flogger. No longer the bullied, nerdy kid she was in high school, Grace is now a take-charge corporate lawyer in Omaha, Nebraska. She’s also a take-charge Top in the bedroom. The last thing she wants to do is go back to the small town of Tatum, but to save a treasured landmark from destruction while exacting retribution on the guy who ground her heart to dust? Hell yes!

Seth Reisner never wanted to leave Tatum. He thought being a country lawyer slash gentleman farmer would be the perfect life. But his agricultural kingpin uncle had other ideas. Now Seth divides his time between litigating on behalf of his uncle’s company and trying to find his “Mrs. Right.” When the opportunity to return to Tatum comes up, he’s grateful for the chance to go home.

Grace and Seth end up on opposite sides both in and out of the courtroom. Grace is determined to get her vengeance while Seth only wants to make up for his unintended past transgressions. When the verdict is read, who will win—and at what cost?

Seth nodded. “This all appears like we’re on a…date.”

Grace sat taller. “And us on a date is bad because…why?”

“I never said it was bad. Just confusing.”

“How can you be confused? You asked me out, remember?”

“Yes, but that was out to dinner. Not in with candlelight and a fire. I mean I thought we’d go to Gino’s, have a nice meal and chat. I’d drive you home and maybe get a goodnight kiss. That’s it.”

“Huh.” She placed her glass on the coffee table and turned toward him. “And you’re disappointed the evening didn’t turn out that way?”

He heaved a breath. “No. Like I said, I’m confused. I don’t want to…presume anything.”

“Ah.” She nodded, her lips pulled into a tiny frown. “I see.”

Without warning, she plucked the glass from his fingers, climbed onto his lap—her legs pinning his hands to his thighs—and kissed him.

It took several, if not more, seconds for Seth to register what was happening. Her soft lips taking possession of his. Her tongue in his mouth. Her hips grinding slightly against him.

When reality crystallized in his brain, he tugged to free his hands. She squeezed her legs, keeping his arms stationary. She tasted of wine with a hint of garlic. Delicious, and powerful.

His pulse skyrocketed and his cock hardened at being restrained. Seth hadn’t ever considered having his movements restricted sexy or erotic, but now he did. He didn’t know if it was the wine, the image of Grace kicking ass in the ring or the fact she was now taking charge that had his dick bellowing for release. Either way, he didn’t much care.

She lifted her head. Her irises had darkened to a deep blue rather than the usual lavender. She nipped his chin as her agile fingers worked the buttons of his shirt. “We can keep up this inane conversation about this being a date, or…”

“Or?” he croaked out, his dick thickening even more.

“We can…retire…to the bedroom. The choice is yours.”

He made a show of thinking about her offer. “Hmmm. Well. Gee. I don’t know. Can I have a minute to think about it?”

Growling, she attacked his neck, biting and sucking. “No,” she grumbled.

He laughed at the tickling sensation. “Bedroom, of course.” He tried again to wrestle his hands free. “Are you gonna let me go?”

She rose up again, a harsh gleam in her eyes. “That depends. Are you gonna be a good boy?”

Every one of his instincts went on high alert. Just what the hell did she mean by that?

It was one thing for her to tease him by confining his actions, but did she actually want him to relinquish control? In the bedroom? That wasn’t his style.

However, Grace tantalized him. Plus there was no denying he was seriously turned on. And if that kiss was any indication, so was she.

He coughed the lump from his throat. “What does being a ‘good boy’ entail?”

“Nothing too difficult. Do as you’re told and…lie there.” Her gaze drilled into his. “Think you can handle that?”

More warning bells clanged in Seth’s head. He’d never been with a woman so in charge. It crimped his pride. Once they were in bed, he’d reassert his masculinity.

He upped his chin. “Yeah, I can handle that. And anything else you want to throw at me.”

Her eyebrows arched, then her expression melted into one of pure sensuality. “We’ll see about that.”
